Over the past five years, SJH Elmer Hospital has expanded its facilities and capabilities through the opening of a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, a modern surgical services department, a new child/adolescent intensive outpatient mental health unit, and a new MaternityCare Center.
New Services
The Radiology Department recently added 16-Slice CT imaging technology and a Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS). The new Brilliance CT scanner from Philips Medical Systems features advanced technology that produces split-second high quality images, permitting doctors to see more anatomical detail in a fraction of the time needed for other tests. With this new CT scanner, SJH-Elmer Hospital’s doctors will be able to more effectively detect and treat a range of life threatening illnesses, including heart disease, cancer, stroke, and lung disease. The possibility of discovering disease in an early state, when a wider array of effective treatment options may be available, will help doctors make accurate diagnoses, and recommend the most effective treatment for their patients. Physicians at SJH Elmer Hospital can now also instantly view digital diagnostic images in the hospital or in their own office using PACS.
Additionally, SJH Elmer Hospital recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Wound Care Center. This service provides comprehensive care including the newest treatment protocols for patients with chronic wounds.
Exceeding Expectations
By focusing on clinical quality and customer service that exceeds all expectations, SJH Elmer Hospital has earned the distinction of being a national leader in patient satisfaction. Its patients have consistently ranked the hospital’s emergency services and ambulatory care among the top in the nation. SJH Elmer Hospital’s inpatients have also given their service good marks, consistently placing the hospital in the top 10 to 20 percentile in the nation for patient satisfaction.Recently, both SJH Elmer Hospital and SJH Regional Medical Center have been recognized for the second consecutive year for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Programsm. This recognition acknowledges the strong commitment by SJH and Elmer Hospital to provide an outstanding patient experience.
Both SJH Elmer Hospital and the SJH Regional Medical Center have also been recognized with the 2006 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence in heart attack (acute myocardial infarction) care. SJH hospitals were the only health care organizations in New Jersey to receive the distinction, and two of 62 VHA member health care organizations, out of 2,200 nationwide, to receive the award.
SJH Elmer Hospital also received the 2006 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence in Critical Care for the prevention of ventilator acquired pneumonia. The awards are based on the latest set of measures that have been nationally accepted as indicators of quality.Hospitals must achieve at least a 90 percent or greater compliance rate with all of the indicators to qualify for the award. SJH Elmer Hospital is one of only 92 VHA member health care organizations nationwide to receive the award.
